Cycle the WAVE (Women Against Violence Everywhere) is a non-competitive, women’s cycling experience created as a venue for women of all ages and fitness levels to experience camaraderie and to increase awareness of domestic violence while raising funds for Eastside Domestic Violence Program (EDVP).
This event was created by women passionate about cycling, friendship, fitness, and the desire to “brake the cycle” of domestic violence and make a difference. 100% of the proceeds will benefit EDVP.
Cyclists will start and finish at Tibbetts Valley Park in Issaquah and throughout the day pedal through the cities of Issaquah, Bellevue, South King County, Renton and Newcastle. The ride offers a choice of three fun routes; the 25-mile Girly Girl, the 40-mile Middle Sister, or our 62-mile metric century Burly Girl. Participants can expect lots of girly surprises and a fantastic finish line reception!… unfortunately we won’t be there, but ladies check your participant bag because we added some delicious Bear Naked samples and awesome coupons. Hope to see you there next year!

While some team sports can rely on one or two people to provide most of the production (see Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder or Jake Locker of University of Washington Huskies) dragon boat racing is one of true teamwork. It consists of roughly 22 individuals working together, moving in unison, to propel a wooden boat weighing nearly one ton through the water. This requires perfect timing from all team members to get the most power from each stroke and any person who is off timing will negatively impact the speed of the boat. It is the purest idea of a team, working together as one.
This Saturday we watched as 30 teams from all over the country and Canada contested to be the best team of the day. Ultimately it was Wasabi S.O.A.R. that won the Seattle Dragon Boat Festival, but all participants did an amazing job playing the role of engine for a large and heavy vehicle. And like all engines, they needed fuel, which we very happily provided.

The sport of dragon boat racing has its roots in Ancient China where the first dragon boat races were held more than 2500 years ago along the banks of the Yangtze River. In the 1970s the Hong Kong Tourist Board staged an international Dragon Boat Festival to promote Hong Kong culture and the rest of the world was introduced to this beautiful athletic endeavor of teamwork and power.
Today there are more than 50 million people participating in competitions held on every continent. It is often considered the fastest growing water sport in the US, and one of the fastest-growing corporate team-building activities.
Saturday September 4th we will be at Stan Sayres Memorial Park to witness the Seattle Dragon Boat Festival of 30 teams of 25 as they propel these beautiful boats through Lake Washington, using the most eco-friendly power available the all-natural human kind. We are going to be providing the fuel to these engines in all natural granola parfaits and granola bars, if you’re there feel free to fill up your tank as well. As it has for the past six years the festival is to benefit Team Survivor Northwest a non-profit organization supporting women in their cancer recovery through empowering programs of physical activity and health education.

This past weekend we attended The Inaugural San Francisco Triathlon at Alcatraz. Saturday’s expo was windy to say the least. Our granola samples weren’t the only things flying off our tables. Our crates, bags, coupons took off in the wind many times. Their were periods when the Bear Naked tent almost took off like that house in Wizard of Oz! The Bear Naked team stabilized and stood their ground to fuel up the athletes courageous enough to take on the Alcatraz Tri.
Luckily the tri-athletes plea to Aeolus was granted and Sunday mornings race was practically windless. All the awesome athletes survived the escape from Alcatraz and grabbed some Bear Naked goodness at the finish line. Congrats to all the finishers!

This week in Boston we spent a fun evening at MetroRock- one of the hottest rock gyms in town!
Friday we headed into Boston for the last Bike Friday of the summer! This event encourages commuters to ride their bikes into work, and the rides end at City Hall Plaza with a free breakfast and a bike expo!
Sunday we drove up to Kennebunk, Maine to support the participants of the Fireman Triathlon! This great event has Olympic and sprint distances, free breakfast (Bear Naked granola, and pancakes served by the local American Legion), and a gorgeous course in this little coastal town!
